Is the zine open to writers or is it art only?
This zine will be art only, sorry! Incorporating as much sentai seasons as we can (ideally all of them) even as a one page illustrations already makes for a substantial number of pages that'll matter greatly for printing costs, and even short stories usually tend to be longer than 1-2 pages. It's easier to incorporate short stories in a digital zine with no page number restrains, but as of now the majority of people voted for a printed version of the zine. Maybe next time!Are you imagining that there will be a more specific theme to the contributions beyond ‘sentai’ or is it open ended ?
For example since the working title is ‘roll call’ each illustration could be of a whole sentai team rather than an individual character?
"Roll Call" is a tentative title for the zine, and there are already several awesome suggestions for a new, more fitting name. That being said, we'll try to be as inclusive as possible and cover as much seasons as we can. It's not feasible for every artist in such a passion-driven project to draw only the roll call of complete teams (and let's be honest, it'll be kind of boring to look at). Instead, we'll be looking for art that celebrates each season, including art depicting major themes/events, teams, villains or even individual characters. We'll try to balance the zine out, but as you can understand, we can't promise anything before we finish the application process and have a better understanding of artists we'll work with.Can an NSFW artist apply as a contributor if they've done SFW sentai pieces in the past?
Yes they can, as long as their contribution to the zine is SFW and they won't actively promote/link their NSFW work in the zine's discord server or the zine itself (i.e. no links to social media profiles with NSFW).Is the work created for this zine limited to being sold with the zine, or could, for example, an artist sell an illustration or pin badge they created for it as a stand-alone item in their own shop at a later date? Thanks for organising this zine!
Artists are allowed to showcase and use their work however they choose after the zine completion (all copies sent out + probably a couple of weeks for them to get to their respective owners). You retain all your rights to your contribution, we just ask for the common courtesy to not share your work too early. Posting previews or doing streams of work in progress is fine, though! We'll update our carrd with more info on this question closer to the start of application process.
